WHO WE ARE

Ireland's Oldest Art Charity

The Friends of the National Collections of Ireland (FNCI) was founded in 1924 by the artist and cultural activist Sarah Purser (1848–1943) and her philanthropic friends. During the succeeding century the FNCI has donated close to 1,000 works to public collections throughout Ireland – north and south. These donations have been made through purchase, contribution, gift or bequest. Paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, carvings, silver, textiles, ceramics, books, manuscripts and furniture have been placed permanently in national and local museums, galleries and libraries. We can also assist in the distribution of bequests and donations.

The organisation is funded solely by subscriptions, donations and bequests. It is run by a voluntary council, chaired by a rotating president. Members of the public can become a Friend and contribute to the growth of collections in galleries and museums around the country.
