Tom Nisbet was born in Belfast in 1909. He moved to Dublin at an early age and attended the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art (now NCAD) where he met Sean Keating and Maurice McGonigal. He started exhibiting with the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1935 of which he became a full member in 1962 and opened the Grafton Gallery in Harry Street in 1944 for young and upcoming artists to showcase their works. Nisbet predominantly worked with watercolour, depicting his affection for Dublin and its surroundings. He died in 2001.
