Biography

John Hughes was a prominent Irish sculptor known for his monumental works and portraiture, heavily influenced by the Italian Renaissance.

His style was noted for “rhythm dominating realistic representation”. His contemporary George (“AE”) Russell praised his “precision and delicacy” as something entirely new to Irish art.
