Friedrich Herkner was a Czechoslovakian-born sculptor and a controversial figure in mid-20th-century Irish art and history due to his affiliation with the Nazi Party while serving in the Irish public service.
Herkner was appointed Professor of Sculpture at the National College of Art (now NCAD) in Dublin in 1938. He was a key figure in the modernist art movement in Ireland during this period.
