Biography

Frances Hodgkins was a pioneering New Zealand-born painter who became a leading figure in British Modernism.
She is celebrated as one of New Zealand’s most prestigious and influential artists, though she spent the majority of her professional life as an expatriate in Europe. She left New Zealand in 1901 and travelled extensively through France, Morocco, Spain, and Italy before settling in England in 1913.
