Elvire Jan was a prominent 20th-century painter associated with the New School of Paris and the post-war Lyrical Abstraction movement.
Born Elvire Kouyoumjian in Bulgaria to an Armenian family, she lived in Switzerland and the United States before settling in Paris in 1926 to study at the Académie Julian.
